This open access book examines the coming of Multipolar globalized World and China’s rise in this complex, multifaceted and spectacular process, the opportunities and challenges for new global integration in the 21st century, and how China can work with other countries to make globalization more inclusive for everyone. The past decade has seen the rising of Global South, Middle Powers and unipolar globalization facing difficult headwinds. Domestic inequality has fueled populism and anti-globalization sentiment, hindering the reform of global institutions. Meanwhile, challenges on AI, climate change, global development, geopolitical instabilities are accelerated. Across the board, dysfunctional global governance have created a chaotic world filled with war and conflict, humanitarian crises, and economic stagnation. Global governance is falling global practice and reform UN and Security Council is more urgent than ever before in order to upgrade global order. The relations between China and US, EU, Middle powers, global south are becoming increasingly important and complex.

The authors hope that the perspectives and ideas in this book can make some contribution in helping readers deepen their understanding of China and globalized multipolar world. They also hope the book will provide useful suggestions on how we can ensure the new upcoming multipolar world is more sustainable, inclusive and can play a positive role in promoting peace and prosperity in the post-hegemonic era.

Henry Huiyao Wang, Ph.D., is Founder and President of the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), a leading think tank ranked among the world’s top 100 by the University of Pennsylvania. He was appointed Counselor to China’s State Council by the Premier, reflecting his role in policymaking. He is Guest Professor at the China Foreign Affairs University and formerly Dean of the Institute of Development Research at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics.

Dr. Wang is a recognized authority on globalization, governance, and Chinese international relations. He has authored or edited more than 150 books in Chinese and English, plus hundreds of articles. He is Chief Editor of Springer Nature’s “China and Globalization” series. His recent English works include Escaping Thucydides’s Trap: Dialogue with Graham Allison on China-US Relations (2023); The Ebb and Flow of Globalization (2022); award-winning Consensus or Conflict? China and Globalization in the 21st Century (2021); and Handbook on China and Globalization (2019). His op-eds appear in South China Morning Post, Bloomberg, Financial Times, New York Times, Economist, and China Daily. He is often interviewed by BBC, CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, TRT, and CGTN, and has spoken at the Munich Security Conference, World Economic Forum, Paris Peace Forum, and Semafor World Economy Summit.

Dr. Wang earned his Ph.D. in international management after doctoral studies at the University of Western Ontario and Manchester University. He has been a Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and Brookings Institution. His career includes service at China’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and as Chief Trade Representative for Quebec in Hong Kong and Greater China. He has served on the UN’s International Organization for Migration Advisory Board and is currently on the Paris Peace Forum Steering Committee, Duke Kunshan University Advisory Board, and Ivey Business School Asia Advisory Board.

Mabel Lu Miao, Ph.D., is Co-Founder and Secretary-General of CCG. She is also a Munich Security Conference Young Leader, Founder of the Global Young Leaders Dialogue (GYLD), and Executive Director of the Alliance of Global Talent Organizations (AGTO). Dr. Miao holds academic posts as Adjunct Professor at the University of International Business and Economics, Professor at Huaqiao University, Postgraduate Supervisor at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Researcher at Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Senior Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. She earned her Ph.D. in Contemporary Chinese Studies from Beijing Normal University and has been a visiting scholar at New York University’s China House and Harvard’s Fairbank Center.

Dr. Miao has contributed to Chinese Social Science Academy blue books and research projects funded by the Chinese Social Science Foundation. She has co-authored and co-edited numerous books with Dr. Wang on China’s international business, migration, and global governance. Their English collaborations include International Migration of China (2017); China’s Domestic and International Migration Development (2019); Transition and Opportunity: Strategies from Business Leaders on Making the Most of China’s Future (2022); Strategies for Chinese Enterprises Going Global (2023); The Future of China’s Development and Globalization: Views from Ambassadors to China (2024); Enhancing Global Governance in a Fragmented World (2024); and Global Development and Cooperation with China (2025). These works highlight China’s evolving role in globalization, talent mobility, and international cooperation.

Together, Dr. Wang and Dr. Miao have positioned CCG as a hub for research, dialogue, and policy innovation, bridging China with the wider world and contributing to debates on globalization and governance.
