With the rapid development of technology, the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the medical field is becoming increasingly widespread. As an important branch of medicine, ophthalmology has seen revolutionary changes in disease diagnosis and treatment through its integration with AI.
This book first introduces the basic overview of ophthalmology and AI, elaborating on the importance of ophthalmology, anatomical structure and function, common ophthalmic diseases, and diagnostic methods. It then focuses on the combination of ophthalmic imaging and AI technology, covering the overview of ophthalmic imaging, image quality control, structural segmentation, and disease diagnosis. Furthermore, the book explores the application of intelligent ophthalmic imaging, including intelligent analysis of anterior and posterior segment ocular images, intelligent assistance for ophthalmic surgery, and joint analysis of the eye with other organs. Finally, it provides an in-depth analysis and discussion on the development and prospects of ophthalmic AI.
This book not only helps readers gain a comprehensive understanding of ophthalmic AI but also provides valuable references for in-depth research in related fields.
Jimmy Liu is a Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Southern University of Science and Technology(SUSTech). He received his PhD in Computer Science from the National University of Singapore. Prior to joining SUSTech, he served as founding director of the Cixi Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He set up the Intelligent Medical Imaging (iMED) group at A*STAR, Singapore 20 years ago focusing on ophthalmic imaging AI algorithm development. His research focuses on ophthalmic artificial intelligence, where he has made pioneering contributions to intelligent medical imaging and its clinical applications.
