Prof. Dr. Norhafiza Mat Lazim is a Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist–Head and Neck Surgeon at the School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Health Campus, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Queensland, Australia in 1999, followed by a Master of Otorhinolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery from USM in 2012. She has undergone extensive subspecialty training in head and neck surgical oncology, including prestigious clinical fellowships at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek – Netherlands Cancer Institute (AVL-NKI) (2014) and VU University Medical Center (VUMC), Amsterdam (2015). Her international exposure further includes advanced clinical training at the Sydney Head and Neck Cancer Institute, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse (Australia, 2019), and microvascular head and neck surgery training at the University Hospital Center Sestre Milosrdnice, Zagreb (2023). Professor Norhafiza has a strong academic and clinical focus on head and neck surgical oncology, with particular expertise in complex oncological resections. She has successfully secured more than 20 research grants at international, national, and institutional levels, reflecting her active engagement in advancing research on head and neck diseases and malignancies.
She has over 130 peer-reviewed publications, including contributions to book chapters and academic texts. In addition, she serves as a reviewer for several high-impact international journals, such as Oral Oncology, International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology (IJPO), Frontiers, and PLOS ONE. Professor Norhafiza is actively involved in the global head and neck oncology community and holds memberships in numerous prestigious professional societies, include American Head and Neck Society (AHNS), European Head and Neck Society (EHNS), Asian Society of Head and Neck Oncology (ASHNO), International Federation of Head and Neck Oncology Societies (IFHNOS), American Thyroid Association (ATA), International Academy of Oral Oncology (IAOO), European Society of Translational Medicine (ESTM), British Association of Head and Neck Oncology (BAHNO), Asian Pacific Society of Thyroid Surgery, Japanese, Korean, and Baltic Head & Neck Oncology societies.
