An Age Friendly Support System for Older Adults in a Digital Society

Jie Wang

Social Science / General

This book addresses the challenges associated with the digital divide in an ageing society. The author analyses the diffusion of various digital products over the past few decades, using the 'Innovation Diffusion Theory' as a basis. The conclusion drawn is that the digital divide is a persistent issue that requires a long-term solution. By analysing the physical, cognitive, and psychological changes that occur in older adults as they age, and how these changes impact their interactions with digital products, the author highlights the support they need in different phases of engaging with digital technologies. This support includes product design, product demos, training, user support, and content risk management. The author proposes a framework for an Age-Friendly Support System for Older Adults. The framework consists of key components that are analyzed for their interactions and impacts on the system. The intended audience includes researchers, practitioners, students, and children of older adults, as well as anyone interested in the digital divide issue and seeking to understand its root causes and potential solutions.
