This book presents the select proceedings from the International Conference on Environmental Challenges, Opportunities and Sustainable Solutions, ENVIRONMENT 2024, held at the Centre for the Environment, IIT Guwahati. Prof. Animes Kumar Golder is Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Head of the Centre for the Environment, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT) Guwahati, Assam, India. He obtained his B.Tech. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Calcutta (2002), M.Tech. (2004), and Ph.D. (2009) in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (India). After completing his doctoral studies, he joined IIT Guwahati as Faculty Member. His research interests include adsorption processes, water and wastewater treatment, advanced oxidation processes, heavy-metal and dye removal, resource recovery, and sustainable environmental remediation technologies. Prof. Golder has published numerous peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters in several international journals and has supervised many B.Tech., M.Tech., Ph.D., and postgraduate students.
Prof. Subbiah Senthilmurugan is Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, Guwahati, Assam, India. He received his B.E. (2001) in chemical engineering from Bharathiar University and his M.Tech. (2003) and Ph.D. (2005) from IIT Delhi. He subsequently carried out postdoctoral and research work at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, before joining IIT Guwahati. His research interests include membrane science and technology, desalination and wastewater treatment, water–energy nexus, and AI/ML-enabled smart water systems. He has published several peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters in various international journals and holds several national and international patents till date. Prof. Senthilmurugan has led numerous sponsored research and industry collaborative projects and is actively involved in technology translation and startup incubation. He serves as Editorial Board Member and Reviewer for journals in chemical and environmental engineering and has supervised numerous Ph.D. and postgraduate students.
Prof. Ramagopal V. S. Uppaluri is Professor (Higher Academic Grade) in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, Guwahati, Assam, India. He obtained his B.Tech. (1997) from Andhra University, M.Tech. (1999) from IIT Kanpur, and Ph.D. (2002) in process integration from the University of Manchester, UK, followed by postdoctoral research at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland. His research areas include process integration, sustainable and rural technologies, food and bioprocess engineering, ceramic membrane-based separations, agricultural waste valorization, and AI/ML-based environmental and air-quality modeling. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed research publications and book chapters in international journals and contributed several book chapters. Prof. Uppaluri has editorial board experience with reputed national and international journals and regularly serves as Reviewer for leading journals in chemical, environmental, and food engineering.
