The Proceedings of the “International Conference on Advanced Sustainability Engineering and Technology” bring together the papers presented at the conference held in May 2026 at the University of Almería in Spain. The peer-reviewed chapters are organized into five thematic sections: smart city infrastructure, smart energy systems, advanced technologies for urban management, sustainable building materials, and mathematical modeling.

This book integrates five interrelated research areas within a single engineering framework, offering a systems-based approach to sustainable urban development and distinguishing itself through this approach. Topics covered include: AI-assisted health monitoring, photovoltaic and wind power systems, deep learning, sustainable building insulation, and fractional modeling for concrete urban problems.

A useful guide for researchers, and policymakers specializing in smart cities, urban sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy, and sustainable technologies.

Prof. Dr. Chakib El Mokhi is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, and Computer Science at Ibn Tofail University, Kenitra. He studied Electrical and Information Engineering in Germany and worked in the automotive industry. His research focuses on optimizing energy production and efficiency using metaheuristics, as well as big data and AI. He is the General Chair of ICASET and co-editor of IJOA, actively involved in organizing ICOA and the “Let’s Challenge” innovation competition. He has reviewed numerous papers for MDPI, and Springer.

Prof. Dr. Hanaa Hachimi earned dual PhDs in Applied Mathematics & Computer Science (Mohammadia Engineering School, Morocco) and in Mechanics & Systems Reliability (INSA Rouen, France), both in 2013. She is a Full Professor at the National School of Applied Sciences, Ibn Tofail University, and President of the Moroccan Society of Engineering Sciences and Technology (MSEST). She is Editor-in-Chief of IJOA and Director of the Systems Engineering Laboratory (LGS). An IEEE Senior Member, she teaches Optimization, OR, Graph Theory, Statistics, Cryptography, Reliability, AI, and Scientific Computing. She serves as General Chair of ICOA and co-organizes the “Let’s Challenge” competition.

Prof. Dr. Nabil Hmina, Doctor of Engineering Sciences from the University and École Centrale de Nantes, is an Associate Professor at Ibn Tofail University. He has served as Vice-President of Ibn Tofail University (2005–2011), Director of ENSA Kenitra (2011–2018), and President of Sultan Moulay Slimane University (2018–2022). He chaired several national committees, including the Higher Commission for Diploma Equivalencies and the national university information system project. He led the Systems Engineering Laboratory (2012–2020). His scientific record includes 2 patents, 4 books, 5 book chapters, 122 indexed papers, and 15 supervised PhDs.

Prof. Dr. Luis Oyonarte Alcalá, PhD in Mathematics from the University of Almería (1998), has over 30 years of academic experience in algebra. He has received numerous recognitions for research, teaching, and academic service. His scientific production includes 52 JCR-indexed articles, one book, and one book chapter, alongside several works in teaching innovation. He has coordinated international mobility programs, especially with Morocco and Turkey, and co-supervised several Moroccan PhD students. He was coordinator of the ERASMUS+ MathICs project.

Prof. Dr. José Carmona Tapia earned his PhD in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Almería in 2001. A specialist in nonlinear functional analysis and elliptic PDEs, he became Full Professor in 2023. He has over 320 citations from more than 256 authors, 30 JCR publications, and three book chapters. His research covers quasilinear elliptic problems, bifurcation theory, variational methods, singularities, and fractional Laplacians. He has led five competitive research projects and supervises doctoral students. He is part of the European academic team coordinating the Erasmus+ CBHE project “Strengthening Mathematics Education by the use of ICTs in Morocco”.
