Computers / Artificial Intelligence / General

This book pioneers and systematically elucidates the disciplinary paradigm of Spatio-Temporal Intelligence, discussing the revolutionary progress in human capabilities regarding the perception, cognition, and decision-making of spatio-temporal information, driven by artificial intelligence. Taking the "moving material world" as its logical starting point, the book deeply dissects the essence and evolution of spatio-temporal information. It constructs a complete methodological system encompassing spatio-temporal data, intelligent perception of spatio-temporal data, mining and analysis, and large model technologies. Furthermore, this book expands the innovative applications of Spatio-Temporal Intelligence across vast domains such as aerospace, air-ground, air-sea, and deep space, and extends these to sectors vital to public well-being, including medicine and socio-economics. It emphasizes the feasibility of realizing collaborative observation and decision-making across "Space-Air-Ground-Sea" under the intelligent foundation of the "Integration of Communication, Navigation, Remote Sensing, and Computing" (CNRC).

Guided by the service principle of "4R" (Right Time, Right Place, Right Data, Right Person), the book is dedicated to answering six core questions: "When, Where, What Object, What Change, What Mechanism, and What Decision." It aims to propel traditional surveying and remote sensing toward a new paradigm centered on intelligence, providing a systematic theoretical framework and technical pathway for understanding complex spatio-temporal processes, constructing digital twin worlds, and achieving sustainable development.

This book is intended for researchers and engineers in fields such as surveying and mapping, remote sensing, geographic information, navigation, and artificial intelligence. It also serves as a systematic and authoritative reference for university faculty and students, policymakers, and technical developers. Through this book, readers will gain a comprehensive understanding of the disciplinary framework, core technologies, and application prospects of Spatio-Temporal Intelligence, laying a solid foundation for further research and engineering implementation.

Prof. Dr. Li Deren is a world-renowned expert in photogrammetry, remote sensing, and geographic information science. He received his Bachelor's degree from Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping (now Wuhan University, China) in 1963 and his Ph.D. from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 1985. Since then, he has served as a professor at Wuhan University, where he has made seminal contributions to the theory and application of spatial information science.

Prof. Li’s research spans remote sensing image processing, spatial data mining, photogrammetric computer vision, and the integration of satellite positioning with communication and remote sensing technologies. He has led numerous national and international research projects, published over 400 academic papers, and authored several influential monographs. His work has been widely applied in national surveying and mapping, disaster monitoring, urban planning, and environmental protection. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the State Natural Science Award (Second Class) of China, the State Science and Technology Progress Award (First Class) of China, and the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Samuel Gamble Award. Prof. Li is also an honorary member of ISPRS and has served as its president. His lifelong dedication to advancing geospatial science and education underscores the authority and relevance of this book in the field of spatio-temporal intelligence.

Prof. Dr. Mi Wang is a professor of the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing (LIESMARS), Wuhan University, China.
