V. M. Tiwari is Director and JC Bose National Fellow at CSIR—North East Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST), Jorhat, Assam, India. He serves as Vice-President of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), New Delhi, and is Bureau Member of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG)—a scientific union of 75 member countries. Earlier, he directed the CSIR—National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad, and the National Centre for Earth Science Studies, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram. As Trained Geophysicist and Recipient of several national awards, including from the Ministry of Mines and the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, he is Fellow of the three national science academies (INSA, NASI, IAS) in India and is engaged in various national and international committees. His research interests primarily focus on deciphering subsurface mass distribution and mass transport relevant to a wide range of scientific and societal applications.
