Advances in Pulse Science and Production Technologies
Innovations for Sustainable Agriculture
Jyoti Prakash Sahoo | Kailash Chandra Samal
Science / Biotechnology
This book presents an integrated view of modern pulse research and production. It brings together genetic, physiological, and agronomic advances into a single, structured resource that supports climate‑ready pulse improvement and sustainable farming practices.
The chapters cover the full landscape of pulse improvement. The first section explains genetic diversity, high‑throughput phenotyping and genotyping, genomic selection, and precision genome editing. The next section examines major biotic and abiotic challenges and discusses disease resistance, pest management, drought and heat tolerance, and nutrient‑use efficiency under difficult soil conditions. The third section presents sustainable production approaches, including biological nitrogen fixation, precision agronomy, pulse‑based cropping systems, and practices that reduce emissions and support soil health. The final section explores emerging tools and approaches such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, speed breeding, nutritional quality enhancement, and integrated gene‑to‑field strategies that strengthen pulse production systems.
This book is relevant for researchers, plant breeders, geneticists, agronomists, and students in life sciences and agriculture. It also supports professionals in crop improvement programs and sustainable farming initiatives seeking an organized, reliable, and practical resource on pulse research and production.
