Biomass Composites for Energy Storage

Sameena Mehtab | M.G.H. Zaidi | Shiv Kumar Dubey

Science / Biotechnology

This book discusses the use of carbon materials made from biomass for electrochemical energy storage. It focuses on converting natural waste like agricultural and forestry residues into useful materials for batteries and supercapacitors. The aim is to support cleaner, more sustainable energy technologies using low-cost and eco-friendly resources.

The chapters begin with an overview of biomass-derived carbon and its role in energy storage. They then explain that different types of biowaste are processed into carbon materials, including nanostructures and porous forms. The book covers the enhancement of these materials through doping with metals and functional groups, and their interaction with other components like polymers, graphene, and metal oxides to improve performance.

Special chapters discuss advanced composites such as biochar hybrids, nanocellulose blends, and materials doped with rare earths, perovskites, and metal sulfides. The book also explains the mechanism of these materials inside energy devices, including their pseudocapacitive behavior and electrochemical mechanisms. It ends with a look at environmental and economic factors, and the role of these technologies in a circular carbon economy.

This book is a useful resource for researchers, graduate students, and professionals in materials science, chemistry, energy technology, and environmental engineering. It offers practical insights for those working on sustainable energy solutions and green materials.
