This two-part compendium addresses every Brazilian state and the federal district. Volume I focuses on the north and northeast regions. Chapters systematize and present new data from around the country, demonstrating an integrated and territorially situated approach that that enables the reconstruction of long-term evolutionary processes and the understanding of the physical basis upon which contemporary socio-environmental dynamics unfold. Advancing an integrated treatment of geodiversity, contributions address the effects of climate as well as identify geoheritage sites.

Vanda Claudino-Sales is a Professor at the Federal University of Pelotas, Brazil. She holds a PhD from the University Paris-Sorbonne, in France, and a Post-doctor from the University of South Florida, USA. She specializes in geomorphology and geodiversity, having worked as a visiting professor in many universities, in Brazil and around the world (including France and USA). She is a green activist, working for the protection of dunes, beaches, mountains and forests in Brazil, especially in its northern region.
