This book on the Ukrainian war experience is unique in global practice, as it represents the results of a systematic study of the populations mental health during a prolonged, high-intensity armed conflict with modern weapons and warfare tactics. It offers practical guidance for the counselling of with refugees from conflict zones, military personnel, rescue workers, medical staff, and volunteers who have experienced trauma. It is also intended for use in preparing humanitarian missions, developing emergency protocols, and training specialists to work under the conditions of modern armed conflict.

The book provides detailed descriptions of post-traumatic stress disorder, complex PTSD, adjustment disorders, affective disorders, anxiety disorders, dissociative disorders, sleep disorders, psychotic disorders specific to wartime, and neurocognitive impairments. Separate chapters focus on mental disorders in different groups of affected individuals, including military personnel, the wounded, civilians, internally displaced persons, and children and adolescents. 

Furthermore, it presents diagnostic protocols using instruments adapted for the Ukrainian population, pharmacotherapy algorithms, and psychotherapeutic approaches with proven effectiveness. It also addresses the organization of medical-psychological and psychiatric care, including the use of telemedicine and mobile intervention formats, and discusses approaches to rehabilitation for those affected by war.

Inna Chernenko. Senior Resident of the Psychiatric Clinic of the National Military Medical Clinical Center of Ukraine, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Lieutenant Colonel of Medical Service. Candidate of Medical Sciences. Author of 531 scientific works, 2 Ukrainian patents. In December 2021, she was awarded the State Prize of the President of Ukraine for Young Scientists for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder. Currently working on a dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences.
