Additive Technologies in Product Manufacturing

Tatjana Kosova Spahiu | Henrique de Amorim Almeida | Panagiotis Kyratsis

Technology & Engineering / Industrial Engineering

This book provides a comprehensive exploration of additive manufacturing technologies and their transformative impact across fashion, footwear, leather goods, food production, healthcare, protective equipment, and sustainable product development. Bringing together advances in materials science, digital design, artificial intelligence, generative design, and 3D printing processes, the chapters examine how additive technologies are reshaping traditional manufacturing workflows, enabling customization, enhancing product performance, and supporting more sustainable and circular production models. Through a combination of theoretical perspectives, industrial applications, experimental studies, and future-oriented analyses, the volume highlights emerging opportunities and challenges in the integration of additive manufacturing into diverse sectors, offering valuable insights for researchers, engineers, designers, and industry professionals seeking to understand the current state and future potential of this rapidly evolving field.

Tatjana Spahiu is an Associate Professor in the Textile and Fashion Department at the Polytechnic University of Tirana, Albania. Her research focuses on the application of digital technologies in garment and footwear design, including CAD/CAM/CAE systems, reverse engineering, and prototyping. She has been actively involved in international training programs and collaborative research projects supported by organizations such as USAID and the European Commission.

Henrique Almeida is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, Portugal. His research interests include biomechanical design, additive manufacturing, human factors, and biomanufacturing. He is actively involved in international academic collaborations and conference organization, and contributes to research projects funded by national and European agencies.

Panagiotis Kyratsis is a Professor of the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering at the University of Western Macedonia, Greece. He also directs the Institute of Traditional Architecture and Cultural Heritage and the CODE+ Research Lab. His research focuses on CAD/CAM/CAE systems, computational design, reverse engineering, product development, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
