This handbook examines critical issues confronting the field of applied behavior analysis (ABA) for autism spectrum disorder. It discusses the history of research-based ABA principles and interventions that have resulted in positive life changes for autistic individuals. The book describes systemic ABA interventions delivered in various settings (e.g., clinics, homes, schools, communities) that have improved learner outcomes. In addition, it addresses existing and emerging issues in the field of ABA that confront autistic learners as well as researchers, practitioners, teachers, and family members. It covers a broad range of topics, including optimal outcomes for individuals; graduate-level and staff training for ABA professionals; adult ABA services; sex education; the neurodiversity movement; assent in ABA; compassionate ABA care; and meaningful classroom curriculum.

Key areas of coverage include:

  • History of ABA interventions for autistic learners.
  • Graduate-level training in ABA.
  • ABA certification and licensure.
  • Delivery of quality ABA interventions for autistic learners.
  • Use of artificial intelligence (AI) in ABA.
  • Future directions in research and practice.
