This book explores how the Botswanan media has affected, and is being affected by, the political, economic, social and cultural changes that have taken place since the country gained independence in 1966. Covering key moments in Botswana's media history and contemporary issues in the digital ecosystem, the book asks deep questions about how the media industry is shaped and controlled in the country and explores its responses to disinformation, misinformation, deepfakes and other recent disruptions.

Allen Munoriyarwa is Associate Professor of Journalism at Walter Sisulu University South Africa, and the former coordinator of the Media Policy and Democracy Project (MPDP), a research project that explored the growth of digital surveillance practices in Southern Africa under the auspices of the Media Policy and Democracy Project.

Gopolang Ditlhokwa is Lecturer in the Department of Media Studies at the University of Botswana.
