This book provides a forward-looking framework for developing durable, high-performance biomaterials with a focus on sustainability. It presents strategies to enhance multifunctional surface performance and optimize internal structure through advanced biomaterial design and synthesis. The first section covers surface treatments to improve durability, biocompatibility, and osteointegration, including biopolymer-based nanocomposite coatings, diamond-like carbon layers, antibacterial metal-oxide coatings, and eco-friendly coatings derived from plant extracts. The second section emphasizes eco-friendly bio-composites, exploring combinations of polymers, natural fibers, and inorganic reinforcements to enhance performance while reducing environmental impact. A comprehensive characterization strategy is included, addressing microstructural, mechanical, tribological, corrosion, and biological analyses to evaluate biomaterials for sustainable applications.
Next-Generation Biomaterials: A Sustainable Approach Through Surface Optimization and Bio‑Composite Design integrates state-of-the-art research, practical methodologies, and sustainability insights, providing researchers, engineers, and professionals with a roadmap for developing durable, high-performance, and environmentally responsible biomaterials.
