This open access book grasps the inspirations that drive Caroline Leaf's versatile career as an animator and artist.

Caroline Leaf: Artist in Motion draws on publications related to Caroline's work since the 1970s in English, French, Polish, German, and Russian, as well as numerous interviews and conversations between the author and the artist conducted between 2009 and 2019. Some of these interviews include members of the film industry who have worked closely with Caroline, such as documentary filmmaker Donald McWilliams and producer Robert Verrall, former Head of the National Film Board's English Animation Department. These in-depth discussions touch on aspects of her work, artistic philosophy, sense of purpose, and search for meaning.

What is revealed is that Caroline's work is defined by a philosophy of continuous movement and change, stepping outside of the comfort of pre-planned career paths, and challenging herself to discover untapped artistic resources by embracing the unexpected. Chapters include close readings and production histories of her films, as a chronological epitome of Caroline's artistic transformations and a landmark in her creative journey.

Theodor Stojanov is a Canada-based culture analyst, ethnographer, and educator. He holds a doctorate from the Film and Moving Image Studies program at Concordia University, Canada, where his work focused on the sociology of cultural production.
