An introduction to, and overview of, relevance theory for scholars and students of the New Testament. This Handbook begins by introducing the origins of relevance theory as a communication theory, showing how the theory has primarily been used to incorporate historical and cultural context into exegesis. Contributors then also consider how further use of the theory from a linguistic perspective can yield deeper insights into the texts of the New Testament.

The handbook is divided into three parts: Part one provides theoretical grounding and introduces relevance theory for those working in New Testament studies; part two shows the theory in an applied context, and provides specific examples of the value of the theory for Greek studies; finally, part three offers an outside look at the theory, including a critical essay that examines the extent of the volume's contribution to New Testament interpretation, Greek studies, and beyond.
