After receiving his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, he held several positions at The University of Western Australian, University of Wollongong, IFW Dresden and Technical University Darmstadt. His research interests include metal additive manufacturing, metallic biomaterials, lightweight alloys and structures, and high-strength alloys and composites. He has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher in the field of Materials Science by Clarivate and as an Advanced Materials Laureate by the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM), Sweden. He has published \u003cspan style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eapproximately 425 peer-reviewed journal articles with an h-index of 99 and more than 35,000 citations.
