He earned B.S. in 1997, M.S. in 1999, and Dr. Eng. in 2002 from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan. Afterward, he moved to Kanazawa University as an assistant professor. He has been a full professor since 2015. His major research interests are design optimization using computational intelligence, multi-objective optimization, evolutionary algorithms, and industrial applications. He received several awards from Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME), which were JSME Young Engineers Award in 2006, JSME Medal for Outstanding Paper in 2011 and Design \u0026amp; Systems Achievement Award in 2013. In addition, he was awarded the CJK-OSM Award for Young Engineer’s in 2004 and Asian Society of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ASSMO) Award in 2026. He served the chair of Design \u0026amp; Systems division in JSME in 2023, and is a fellow of JSME.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYoshihiro Kanno is a professor in Mathematics and Informatics Center at the University of Tokyo. He received his B.S. in 1998, M.S. in 2000, and Dr. Eng. in 2002 from the Department of Architecture and Architectural Systems at Kyoto University. His research interests are at the interface of applied mechanics and optimization and cover applications of diverse optimization models in structural optimization and nonsmooth mechanics. He was awarded the Maeda Prize in Engineering in 2005, CJK-OSM Award for Young Investigator in 2006, the JJIAM Paper Awards in 2012 and 2019 of the Japan Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (JSIAM), the Encouragement Prize in 2018 of the Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ), the Design \u0026amp; Systems Achievement Award in 2023 of JSME, and the Best Paper Award in 2023 and the Research Award in 2025 of the Operations Research Society of Japan (ORSJ). He took on the role of President of the Asian Society of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ASSMO) for the 2026–2028 term.
