Trichology for Aesthetic Treatment

An Evidence-Based Guide to Scalp Biology, Hair Disorders, Diagnosis, Restoration, and Aesthetic Practice

Medical / Dermatology

This book offers a comprehensive scientific and clinical exploration of the scalp and hair, bridging modern trichological research with aesthetic and surgical practice. It examines the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the scalp in depth, while analyzing key mechanisms such as hair growth regulation, scalp homeostasis, and the biomechanical stresses associated with hair restoration and extension systems.

Special emphasis is placed on advanced diagnostic techniques and emerging therapeutic approaches, including microneedling-assisted drug delivery, regenerative treatments such as exosomes and polynucleotides, and the biological safety of traction and occlusive methods. The book also addresses the anatomical, histological, and microbiological foundations of scalp function, alongside physiological responses to both medical and aesthetic interventions.

Designed as a practical resource for clinicians, the book integrates trichology with clinical anatomy and dermatologic surgery to provide evidence-based protocols for scalp rejuvenation, alopecia management, and minimally invasive aesthetic procedures. It includes ultrasound safety landmarks, scalp-protection strategies, and treatment guidelines for professional use. This volume is intended for dermatologists, trichologists, aesthetic and plastic surgeons, anatomists, clinical educators, and researchers, as well as postgraduate students specializing in scalp physiology, hair restoration, and aesthetic medicine.

Kyuho Yi, MD, PhD. published more than 500 renown scientific papers and three textbooks. Currently engaged in clinical practice at You&I Clinic, Seoul. He earned his PhD in gross anatomy from Yonsei University and later completed his MD at the Catholic University of Korea, School of Medicine. His work bridges academic anatomy and applied procedural medicine, with particular expertise in facial anatomy, injectables, ultrasound-guided procedures, thread lifting, trichology, and hair restoration. He has served in editorial and reviewer roles, participated as faculty and speaker at major international scientific congresses, and published extensively in anatomy, aesthetic medicine, and hair-related research. Within this book, he played a leading role in scientific conception, chapter development, medical review, and academic supervision, particularly in areas related to scalp anatomy, diagnostic workflow, procedural safety, regenerative interventions, and the anatomical foundations of clinical trichology

Olena Sydorchuk is a trichology researcher and educator based in Seoul, Republic of Korea. She is affiliated with Aesthefora Inc. Her work focuses on scalp biology, hair restoration, scalp barrier repair, polymer-based biomaterials, and clinically relevant aesthetic approaches in trichology. Her primary contribution to this book are the chapters on hair extensions in clinical and aesthetic practice, which reflects her expertise in extension-based systems, camouflage-oriented solutions, and patient-centered aesthetic support for individuals with hair loss. She also contributed to selected sections of the manuscript and to the development of the book’s interdisciplinary and aesthetic-clinical perspective.
