It offers comprehensive coverage of topics crucial to the development of sustainable, efficient, and resilient rural and agri-infrastructure.

The chapters explore a wide range of themes including smart irrigation systems, water resource modeling, rural connectivity, agri-logistics and post-harvest transportation planning, GIS-enabled land and infrastructure optimization, and structural innovations in rural and agricultural settings. Emphasis is placed on civil engineering applications that address pressing agricultural challenges—such as water accessibility, transport inefficiencies, infrastructure bottlenecks, and environmental resilience—through a mix of field studies, experimental insights, and simulation-based research.

The book also includes insights into climate-responsive rural infrastructure design, accessibility mapping using geospatial tools, planning of agricultural supply chains, and strategies for minimizing losses in post-harvest transport. It highlights interdisciplinary approaches to improving farm-to-market systems, water-energy management in irrigation, and structural requirements for storage, mobility, and sustainability in agri-based regions.

This book can serve as a valuable resource for researchers, engineers, planners, and policy experts working in transportation systems, water resources, agri-infrastructure, and sustainable rural development by synthesizing engineering practices with agricultural needs. It also offers practical insights for postgraduate scholars and industry practitioners seeking real-world applications of civil engineering in agriculture and allied fields.

Dr. Anuj Kishor Budhkar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, India. He obtained his B.Tech in Civil Engineering from VJTI, Mumbai University, and earned his M.Tech and Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from IIT Guwahati. He subsequently served as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at IIT Bombay. His research areas include mixed traffic operations, rural transportation planning, agri-logistics and infrastructure planning, and the impact of transport systems on agriculture and livelihoods. Dr. Budhkar is the Principal Investigator of a DST-SERB-funded project on electric vehicle suitability on Indian roads and is also a co-PI of a national study funded by ICSSR on highway development and its agricultural impact in the hilly regions of Nagaland.

Dr. Alivia Chowdhury is currently Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Soil and Water Engineering at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), West Bengal.
