This book is formulated to standardize and regulate highway safety audit. It is applicable to the stages of feasibility study, preliminary design, detailed design, pre-opening and operation of motorways and class-1, class-2 and class-3 highways. Based on recent research and practical experience in China and foreign countries, development of the current focus safety audit, and the requirement to develop a framework for “Safe Transportation”, this book is issued for implementation accordingly. With the rapid development of the highway transportation industry and a growing demand for traffic safety in China, strengthening and promoting the application of highway safety audit has become inevitable. This book has been important for improving highway facilities and traffic safety conditions and promoting improved highway safety since its implementation.

Hongyuan Wang, is Business Director and Safety Director/ Senior Engineer at CCCC Highway Consultants Co., Ltd. He has led the survey and design efforts for multiple expressway projects, demonstrating extensive experience in highway engineering design and consulting. The design projects in which he served as the project leader or participant received nine awards at provincial and ministerial levels and above. These include one National Excellent Design Silver Award; three First Prizes and three Second Prizes for Excellent Transportation Design at the provincial and ministerial level; one Third Prize in the Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Awards; and one Third Prize for Excellent Survey Projects at the provincial and ministerial level.
