Advances in GNSS Reflectometry

Receiver Design, Signal Processing, Machine Learning-Based Model Construction, and Disaster Monitoring

Kegen Yu | Nanshan Zheng

Computers / Image Processing

This book is dedicated to advances in the theory and practice of GNSS reflectometry. It covers a variety of topics in this emerging remote sensing technology, including retrieval of soil moisture, snow depth and snow water equivalent, underground Coal Mining Induced Ground subsidence, sea surface height, wind speed and direction, sea surface wave height and rainfall intensity; detection of sea ice, ships, land water body, sea surface rainfall; and data calibration and design of antenna and receiver. It also briefly presents the theory and application of GNSS SAR imaging. The book makes use of ground-based, airborne, and spaceborne data for land and ocean applications especially those related to disasters such as droughts, floods, hurricanes, typhoons, and damaging sea waves. Extensive data processing and experimental results are presented in the major chapters.

Kegen Yu received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Sydney, Australia, in 2003. He has worked for universities and research institutions in Australia, China and Finland. He is currently a distinguished professor with the School of Environment Science and Spatial Informatics, China University of Mining and Technology, Xuzhou, China. He has coauthored the book Ground-Based Wireless Positioning (Wiley-IEEE Press, 2009) and another book Wireless Positioning: Principles and Practice (Springer, 2018), and has authored the book Theory and Practice of GNSS Reflectometry (Springer, 2021). He edited/co-edited three books (Positioning and Navigation in Complex Environments, IGI Global, 2008; Indoor Positioning and Navigation, Science Press, 2009; Positioning and Navigation Using Machine Learning Methods, Springer, 2024). He has authored or coauthored over 200 refereed journal and conference articles, including more than 150 SCI journal articles. He has been ranked in the world’s top 2% scientists list since 2023 by Stanford University and Elsevier. He was honored with Vebleo Fellow in 2026. His research interests include GNSS-R, wireless positioning, and remote sensing.
