Recently, monitoring of cerebral blood flow and cerebral oxygenation, both regionally and globally, has become feasible. Methods like thermodiffusion techniques, measurements of tissue pO2, laser-doppler-spectroscopy, near infrared spectroscopy and monitoring of oxygen saturation in the jugular bulb have successfully been used. This book discusses indications and results of CBF and cerebral oxygenation monitoring in critically ill patients.
