The book\nfocuses on new methods including strain state\nanalysis as well as evaluation of the composition\nvia the lattice fringe analysis (CELFA) technique.\nThe basics of these procedures as well as their\nadvantages, drawbacks and sources of error are all\ndiscussed.  The techniques are applied to quantum\nwells and dots in order to give insight into\nkinetic growth effects such as segregation and\nmigration. In the first part of the book the fundamentals of\ntransmission electron microscopy are provided.\nThese are needed for an understanding of the\ndigital image analysis techniques described in the\nsecond part of the book.  There the reader will\nfind information on different methods of\ncomposition determination.  The third part of the\nbook focuses on applications such as composition\ndetermination in InGaAs Stranski--Krastanov\nquantum dots.  Finally it is shown how an\nimprovement in the precision of the composition\nevaluation can be obtained by combining CELFA with\nelectron holography.
