Safety-Oriented Optimization of Automotive E/E Architectures

Dorsa Mohammad Zaheri

Technology & Engineering / Automotive

The rapid development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), connectivity, and autonomous driving is transforming vehicles into software-defined systems. As E/E architectures evolve toward centralized and zonal computing, the integration of hardware and software becomes increasingly complex, while adherence to the ISO 26262 functional safety standard remains essential for ensuring system reliability.

This book presents a unified mixed-integer programming (MIP) framework for automated E/E architecture design. It jointly optimizes software deployment, task scheduling, communication routing, and resource allocation under safety constraints, with explicit modeling of ISO 26262 requirements, including ASIL decomposition. The approach supports different ISO 26262 design strategies and captures tradeoffs between cost, performance, and safety in mixed-criticality systems, while ensuring efficient and safe communication behavior.

Dorsa Mohammad Zaheri received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Shahid Rajaee University, Tehran, Iran, in 2014 and 2017, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 2025. Her research focuses on the design and optimization of automotive electrical/electronic (E/E) architectures, with particular emphasis on functional safety, autonomous driving systems, model-based systems engineering, and AI-driven engineering methodologies.
