To\naccomplish this, a wide range of observations will        be\nrequired to provide both new measurements, not previously\nachievable and measurements with a greater degreee of\naccuracy and resolution than the ones which are presently\nand currently available.\nAmong the parameters  that are currently retrieved from\nsatellite vertical sounding observations, temperature and\nmoisture profiles are the most important for the            description\nof the thermodynamic state of the medium. Other                 parameters,\nlike those describing the cloud fields, the surface state       or\nthe conditions close to the surface are also key parameters\nfor      meteorology and climatology.\nA new generation of high spectral atmospheric  sounders in\nthe infrared has recently been designed to provide both         new\nand more accurate data about the atmosphere, land and oceans\nfor    application to climate studies.
