These new systems\nwill allow the definitionof data with complex structures,\nthe representation of semantic             relationships between\nobjects, and the use of powerful query and update     languages.\nThey will be based on a combination of techniques\noriginatingfrom relational databases and logic programming,\nwith contributions from    object-oriented programming.\nThe goal of the LOGIDATA+ project is the       design, definition,\nand prototype implementation of a database management   system\nwith complex structures and a class hierarchy, to be\naccessed    through a rule-based language. This book presents\nan integrated view of the project at the end of the first\nphase.
