How do we achieve this, and more         importantly,\nhow can we get a computer to do this? One very                 promising\napproach is to find mathematical functions of an                  object's\nimage, or of an object's 3D description, that are invariant\nto the transformations caused by the object's motion.\nThis book is devoted to  the theory and practice of such\ninvariant image features, so-called image   invariants, for\nplanar objects. It gives a comprehensive summary of         the\nfield, discussing methods for recognizing both occluded                 and\npartially occluded objects, and also contains a definitive\ntreatmentof moment invariants and a tutorial introduction\nto algebraic invariants,   which are fundamental to affine\nmoment invariants and to many projective    invariants.\nA number of novel invariant functions are presented and         the\nresults of numerous experiments investigating the stability\nof new  and old invariants are discussed.
