For a period of five years about a                  dozen\nprojects were funded with an emphasis on algorithms and               data\nstructures for geometric problems, on the one hand, and\nparallel   and distributed algorithms, on the other.\nThis volume contains 18 papers    that are intended to give an\nimpression of the achievements of this joint   research\ninitiative. The first group of papers addresses research           on\nfundamental data structures, computational geometry,                     graph\nalgorithms, computer graphics, and spatial databases.
