This book presents a comprehensive and evidence-based investigation of vermicomposting as an innovative and realistic solutions for the transformation of organic waste into nutrient-rich biofertilizer supporting the agricultural advancements and environmental stewardship. Considering environmental concerns such as soil degradation, excessive dependence on synthetic fertilizers, food insecurity, and continuous escalation in organic waste production, vermicomposting has emerged as one of the key nature-based technologies that support resilient agricultural systems and resource-efficient economies. This volume compiles the scientific principles, technological innovations and convenient applications of vermicomposting, amalgamating present knowledge on earthworm biology, microbial associations, and waste biotransformation and recycling of nutrients, and vermicompost quality. It emphasizes the role of vermicomposting in improving soil health, enhancing crop productivity, restoration of degraded ecosystems, reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases, and promoting sustainable management of agricultural, municipal, and industrial waste.

This book also investigates the contribution of vermicomposting to the circular economy through the conversion of waste into valuable agricultural input, reducing environmental pollution and filling nutrient loops. It bridges elementary science with practical implementation, while also presenting modern advances in vermitechnology, discussing amalgamation with meticulousness in agriculture and climate-smart farming, and examining promising opportunities in valorization of waste, bioeconomy development, carbon sequestration and sustainable use of resources. Real-world examples, contemporary research findings, and future aspects will provide readers with ample understanding of how vermicomposting can contribute to achieving sustainable goals. Therefore, merging scientific rigor with practical significance “Vermicomposting for Sustainable Development, Food Security and the Circular Economy” can serve as a reference for sustainable solutions for waste management, soil restoration, agricultural productivity, and environmental conservation. Written by leading scientists in the field, the book will be of significant value to researchers, students, and professionals in waste management, soil science, agronomy, agriculture, and environmental science.
