This book serves as the first board review book for the field of adult congenital heart disease (ACHD). Compared to previous texts in the field, this book includes more succinct topic summaries and a heavy emphasis on review questions, supported by a deck of nearly 300 MCQs available via the Springer Nature FlashCard app. It is intended for both test-takers in cardiology or ACHD board exams as well as for providers seeking to expand their knowledge in congenital heart disease. It provides the foundations of ACHD by describing the basic lesions, then moves on to deeper topics such as hemodynamics, diagnosis, and management to challenge the reader. It aims to be accessible to readers at varying levels of expertise, from nurses and medical students to physician subspecialists.
Each chapter will open with a set of questions to assess readers’ basic knowledge and clinical skills. The second portion of the chapter will provides informational content in a summarized/ simplified manner. Special attention will be given to the current American Heart Association/ American College of Cardiology and European Society of Cardiology guidelines and their translation to daily practice.

Dr. Dan G. Halpern is the Klinsky Family Associate Professor of Cardiology at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, Program Director of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) Program, and Director of the ACHD Fellowship at NYU Langone Health. An internationally recognized leader in adult congenital heart disease and cardiac diseases in pregnancy.
Dr. Halpern is widely regarded as a master clinician and educator, recognized for his exceptional clinical expertise and commitment to mentoring the next generation of cardiologists. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters focused on ACHD. His extensive scholarly contributions include authorship work on several leading cardiovascular textbooks, including Fuster and Hurst's The Heart, Cardiovascular Medicine and Surgery, Nanda's Comprehensive Textbook of Echocardiography, The Cardiac Care Survival Guide and Herzog's CCU Book, as well as the forthcoming editions of Otto's Textbook of Clinical Echocardiography and the American Society of Echocardiography's Comprehensive Echocardiography.
In addition to his scholarly work, Dr. Halpern actively participates in multicenter clinical research studies aimed at advancing the care and outcomes of patients with congenital heart disease. He currently serves on the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Leadership Council for Cardio-Obstetrics and is a site accreditor and representative for the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA).
Dr. Adam Small is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in Adult Congenital Heart Disease at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts and is an enthusiastic teacher of medical students and trainees. He currently serves on the ACC Leadership Council for Adult Congenital and Pediatric Cardiology (ACPC) and as well as course director for the yearly NYU Symposium for ACHD and Cardio-Obstetrics.
Dr. Eyal Herzog is currently the Director of the Department of Cardiology at Hadassah Medical Center, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is also Professor of Medicine at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, where he worked for over two decades.
Dr. Herzog has developed highly respected methods for improving cardiovascular healthcare through the application of novel algorithmic pathways that simplify the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Herzog is internationally recognized for his leadership in Critical Care Cardiology and Echocardiography. He had authored many textbooks, including the The Cardiac Care Survival Guide and Herzog’s CCU Book.
