Research in the psychology of interaction thus concretely highlights that (i) joint action is the constituent of human evolution, and that (ii) joint action is carried out in meaningful contexts, made up of human beings and their artifacts. This is the common orientation that unites all the contributors to this collective book. The authors both assume that reasoning and conversation (even with glance, gesture, and behaviours only, that is to say non-linguistic interactions) develop at the same time, and that conversation is a relevant metaphor of human thinking. The various chapters present empirical contributions with European participants (infants and toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children) and show why various methods investigating human development are worth revisiting by the psychology of interaction.
