This book highlights the pioneers who have won the Nobel Prize for their contributions to the development of CT and MRI. Author Euclid Seeram guides the reader from the discovery of x-rays that led to the birth of medical imaging, to the basic physical differences between CT and MRI and states the advantages of each of them.
Sir Godfrey Hounsfield’s contribution that earned him a Nobel Prize for the invention of the first clinically useful CT scanner is discussed, as well as Sir Godfrey Hounsfield’s and professor Allan Cormack’s contribution that earned them a Nobel Prize for the invention of the CT scanner. The achievements of several key pioneers (Isadore Rabi, Felix Bloch, Edward Purcell, for example) who earned the Nobel Prize in Physics for their contributions to the development of MRI are also discussed in detail. The contributions of Dr Lauterbur and Dr Mansfield, who earned the Nobel Prize for their contributions to the development of clinical MRI, are also highlighted.

Euclid Seeram is a Former Program Head (Retired), Medical Imaging Degree Program; CT, MRI, and Breast Imaging Advanced Diploma Programs; British Columbia Institute of Technology, British Columbia, Canada.
Currently, he serves as adjunct associate professor at Monash University; and Adjunct Associate Professor, University of Canberra; in Australia. He is also a senior lecturer in Radiographic Imaging Sciences; Computed Tomography Physics and Technology for VCA Education Solutions for Health Professionals; Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Euclid has published more than 62 papers in peer-reviewed radiologic technology journals and has had 38 textbooks published on computed tomography, computers in radiology, radiographic instrumentation, digital radiography, radiation protection and Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging Technology
He is a founding member of the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences and is now on several international editorial boards for 5 Journals of Medical Imaging
Euclid was recently awarded the Charles Sturt University 2022 Alumni of the year for professional achievement. This award “recognizes alumni who are professionally making a significant and positive impact on their communities, their industry, or the world.” Furthermore, Euclid has been awarded the Fellowship of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), a prestigious professional achievement designation, who “demonstrates exceptional professional excellence, advanced competence, and extensive contributions to the MRT community, healthcare leadership, and research”
Euclid's current research interests are related to radiation dose optimization in computed tomography and digital radiography imaging systems, as well as in radiation protection related to diagnostic imaging. He is also currently focused on the use of Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging. His book on AI in Medical Imaging Technology was recently published by Springer.
