Technology & Engineering / Biomedical

This book reports on timely research at the interface between biomedical engineering and intelligence technologies applied to biology and health care. It covers cutting-edge methods applied to biomechanics and robotics, EEG time series analysis, blood glucose prediction models, among others. It includes peer reviewed papers presented at the Third International Conference on Innovations in Biotechnology and Health Sciences (BIOCOM 2026), held in Bangkok, Thailand, during April 9–11, 2026.

R. Simon Sherratt received the B.Eng. from Sheffield City Polytechnic in 1992, M.Sc. from the University of Salford in 1993, and Ph.D. from the University of Salford in 1996. In 1996, he was appointed as a lecturer in Electronic Engineering with the University of Reading, where he is currently a professor of Biosensors. His research area is wearable devices, mainly for healthcare and emotion detection. Eur Ing Professor Sherratt is a past editor-in-chief of the IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics. He was awarded the 1st place IEEE Chester Sall Award in 2004, 2nd place in 2014 and 2024, and 3rd place in 2015 and 2016 for best papers in the IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics. He is currently an academic editor for ICICT, BIOCOM, and ICT Section Board Member of Technologies.

Shrikant Pawar is an assistant professor (tenure-track faculty) in Department of Computer Science and with a joint appointment in Biology at Claflin University (Historically Black Colleges & Universities/Minority Serving Institution (MSI)), School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Orangeburg, South Carolina, USA, with a Masters in Computer Science and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) (2014–2019) from Georgia State University (MSI), Atlanta, USA. His research is focused on big data (Biomedical imaging, Spectral, Single cell, Next-generation sequencing, Microarrays, X-ray crystallography, et cetera (etc.).) analysis with artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning techniques (Neural networks, Support Vector Machines (SVM’s), Random Forest, Supervised, Un-supervised techniques, Computer vision, Restricted Boltzmann machines, Clustering algorithms, etc.)

Simon James Fong graduated from La Trobe University in Australia with a First Class Honors BEng degree in Computer Systems and a Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1993 and 1998, respectively. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Macau and a senior visiting scholar at Tsinghua University, Beijing. Prior to joining the University of Macau, he served as an assistant professor in the School of Computer Engineering at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Dr. Fong has published over 500 peer-reviewed international conference and journal papers, primarily in the areas of medical applications and data mining. He actively serves as a SIG chair for IEEE ComSoc e-Health and as editor-in-chief of the Medical Data Mining journal.

Nilanjan Dey (a senior member, IEEE) received the B.Tech., M.Tech. in information technology from West Bengal Board of Technical University and Ph.D. degrees in electronics and telecommunication engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, in 2005, 2011, and 2015, respectively. Currently, he is a professor with the Techno International New Town, Kolkata, and a visiting fellow of the University of Reading, UK. His research interests include medical imaging and machine learning. Moreover, he actively participates in program and organizing committees for prestigious international conferences. He is also the editor-in-chief of International Journal of Ambient Computing and Intelligence, associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Technology and Society and series co-editor of Springer Tracts in Nature-Inspired Computing and Data-Intensive Research from Springer Nature and Advances in Ubiquitous Sensing Applications for Healthcare from Elsevier, etc. Furthermore, he is an editorial board member of IEEE Data Descriptions.
