Statistical Models and Methods for Left Truncated Right Censored Lifetime Data

Narayanaswamy Balakrishnan | Debanjan Mitra

Business & Economics / Industrial Management

This book synthesizes the recent developments on analysis of left truncated right censored data, mainly from the point of view of parametric inference. The coverage includes different parametric models, inferential methods based on observed likelihood function, expectation maximization algorithm, Bayesian methods, model selection procedures, and analysis of competing risks data, all within the realm of left truncation and right censoring. It also includes brief discussions on semiparametric models that have been recently used for left truncated right censored data, left truncated interval censored data, and truncated and doubly-censored data. The book presents recent developments on statistical literature in this area in a single volume to advanced postgraduate students, researchers, and practitioners.

Professor N. Balakrishnan is a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. A renowned scientist, an author of several books and numerous research articles covering a wide area within statistics, and the editor of several series of statistical handbooks, he is considered an authority of statistical science worldwide. He obtained his Doctorate in Statistics from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, in 1981. He has held Visiting Professor position in numerous universities, including University of Waterloo (Canada), University de Le Havre (France), Ankara University (Turkey), King Saud University (Saudi Arabia), Bowling Green University (USA), Universidad Complutense Madrid (Spain), University of Bologna (Italy), University of Vienna (Austria), Ren-Min University (China), University of Pau (France) among others. Recipient of several teaching awards, and fellowships of august organizations including the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and the International Statistical Institute, he was conferred an Honorary Doctorate by University of Athens, Greece, in 2018. Professor Balakrishnan is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada since 2021.

Professor Debanjan Mitra is in the Quantitative Methods and Information Systems Area (Department) at Indian Institute of Management Udaipur, India. Earlier, he was a faculty in the Department of Mathematics at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India. He obtained his Doctorate in Statistics from McMaster University, Canada, in 2012. His research interest includes statistical inference based on truncated and censored lifetime data, dependence modelling for lifetime data, statistical modelling and analysis of complex reliability systems, and degradation modelling, among others.
