This book studies military logistics focusing on the operational level of war. It covers the theoretical foundations of operational logistics (OpLog) and describes its applications. The text is divided into two parts: qualitative (“art”) and quantitative (“science”). The qualitative aspects of OpLog, which are contained in the first part of the book, include general principles, imperatives, and tenets that apply to regular and irregular military operations. The second part of the book is more formal and focuses on a network model that represents the structural and operational features of an OpLog system. This updated third edition also addresses the important topic of battlefield maintenance and includes new chapters covering contested logistics, and the effect of advanced information technologies, such as cyber operations, AI, and IoT, on OpLog.
