It treats the complexity introduced in sliding-mode control by delay and addresses potential issues connected with reduced robustness. It emphasizes delay types of practical importance in such different contexts as: fault reconstruction, disturbance rejection and stabilization.

The authors provide a snapshot of current understanding while laying foundations that will remain relevant as the field advances. The text balances rigor and accessibility, breadth and depth, and theoretical development and practical application. It provides the reader with specialized tools to tackle the challenges posed by the growth in input and output delays following on inevitably from the increasing prevalence of networked and distributed systems.

Sliding-Mode Control and Estimation for Time-Delay Systems is primarily intended for graduate students, researchers and practicing engineers working on robust and nonlinear control of time-delay systems. Students will find it to be a structured entry point into an important subfield of robust control. Researchers will gain a comprehensive reference on the state of the art and key open problems. Practitioners will find actionable design methodologies and implementation guidelines tailored to real-world challenges.

Hardy Pinto has authored articles in leading journals such as Automatica, the International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, the Asian Journal of Control, and SPE Production & Operations.
