The goal is to create a practical, concise resource that highlights the most critical points to help ICU practitioners in both their clinical exams and during their ICU duties. Grounded in evidence, this book contains the most essential ICU clinical trials and references. It consists of chapters covering ICU subspecialties, each addressing the key skills ICU physicians need to master. To ensure accuracy and coverage, the book has been reviewed by experts from various departments, who were assigned to the chapters according to their respective subspecialties.

ICU Clinical Review will be a valuable resource for ICU physicians (residents, fellows, specialists, etc.), who can use it as a reference during on-call duties and clinical exams.

Dr. Haytham Abbas is a Consultant in Critical Care Medicine at Dr. Suliman Fakeeh Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he has been practicing since 2019. He obtained the Saudi Board in Internal Medicine in 2016 and the Saudi Critical Care Fellowship in 2019. In 2023, he was awarded the European Diploma in Critical Care Medicine. In 2025, he completed the Fellowship in Cardiovascular Critical Care at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada.

Currently, he is covering the position of Chairperson of the Adult Critical Care Department at Dr. Suliman Fakeeh Hospital.

From 2021 to 2024, he served as the Program Director of the Critical Care Medicine Residency Program. He has contributed to multiple clinical trials in Saudi Arabia and co-authored a chapter titled “Proximal Myopathy” in Skills in Rheumatology by Hani Almoallim, published by Elsevier.

Dr. Abbas is passionate about medical education and has been organizing and leading a focused ICU skills course for several years. This course, aimed at mastering ICU techniques, spans three months and is offered annually. His interest in creating educational diagrams and figures has also driven his work in writing this book.
