This open access volume pushes the boundaries of both traditional and critical security studies, offering a comprehensive exploration of feminist security studies in the Americas·Abya Yala from a decolonial perspective, challenging dominant narratives and engaging with urgent security issues.
The book is divided into four thought-provoking parts, each delving into distinct dimensions of (in)securities in the region. Part I addresses feminist and decolonial perspectives on peace, the military and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda; Part II examines spatial and embodied dynamics of unconventional wars; Part III delves into intersectional and decolonial analyses of insecurities and mobility; and Part IV explores imaginative strategies to counter security challenges. Topics explored include feminist research in war zones, insecurities linked to mobility, autonomous feminist movements in Latin America, counter data production on feminicides, and mothers’ resistance to militarization and state violence. This ground-breaking book invites readers to rethink security paradigms and engage with diverse perspectives. With contributions from esteemed scholars and researchers, the volume is an indispensable resource for those studying Political Science, Peace and Conflict Studies, Feminist International Relations, Gender and Security, and beyond. It also holds invaluable insights for activists, NGOs, and collectives advocating for social justice and security in the Americas·Abya Yala.
