Chronic kidney disease is increasing worldwide despite major advances in conventional nephrology. While modern medicine has greatly improved dialysis, transplantation, and pharmacologic therapies, many of the upstream drivers of kidney disease remain insufficiently addressed in clinical practice.
Integrative Nephrology provides a comprehensive framework for incorporating systems-based and integrative approaches into modern kidney care while maintaining rigorous scientific standards. The book bridges conventional nephrology with emerging insights from genetics, lifestyle medicine, metabolic physiology, environmental health, and stress biology.
The text explores the foundations of kidney physiology and disease while presenting practical clinical frameworks for integrative management of hypertension, chronic kidney disease progression, kidney stones, and cardiorenal and metabolic disorders. Contributors examine the role of nutrition, sleep disorders, autonomic dysfunction, environmental exposures, and other systemic drivers of kidney disease.
Designed for nephrologists, physicians, trainees, and integrative medicine practitioners, Integrative Nephrology serves as a comprehensive reference for clinicians seeking to expand kidney care beyond traditional disease management toward a more systems-oriented approach to renal health.
Dr. Majd Isreb, MD, FACP, FASN, IFMCP, is a nephrologist based in the Pacific Northwest and the founder of the Integrative Kidney Institute. He received his medical degree from Damascus University School of Medicine and completed his nephrology fellowship at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago.
Dr. Isreb practices clinical nephrology with a focus on integrative and personalized kidney care, combining conventional nephrology with nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and environmental health approaches.
His academic and clinical interests include chronic kidney disease, cardiorenal and metabolic disorders, environmental and lifestyle drivers of kidney disease, and the delivery of kidney care in resource-limited and conflict settings. He has published peer-reviewed work on diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and kidney failure in humanitarian and conflict environments.
Dr. Isreb has long been involved in global humanitarian nephrology. He has organized and participated in multiple medical missions serving displaced populations and helped establish dialysis services for Syrian refugees through collaborations with various humanitarian organizations.
