Prior to his academic career, he worked as a Manufacturing Engineer at a joint venture of KMWE-Dutch Aero. Throughout his career, Prof. Gürgen has contributed to various industrial and research projects in collaboration with organizations such as Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), Fiat Automotive Industry, and the Turkish Air Force. Funding for his projects has been provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), the European Union (EU), and other local and international funders. He has a substantial publication record, with numerous articles in refereed international journals, as well as edited and authored books and book chapters.
