This book is a tribute to one of the most influential philosophers in the history of philosophy in recent times. With her four-volume work title “A history of Women Philosophers” and the volume of the non-Western history of philosophers, published in 2024, Mary Ellen Waithe’s writings have an international significance. Colleagues and friends, who have been companions for many years, have gathered in this book to honor her work. Contributions from the Middle Ages to the present, from the philosophy of religion to logic, cover a broad field that will attract equally broad interest. An otherwise unencountered collection of ideas is presented here, united by the bond of research into the history of women philosophers.
Ruth Edith Hagengruber is a German philosopher and a professor of Philosophy at the University of Paderborn.
Hagengruber’s research is dedicated to the rediscovery of women’s contributions to the history of philosophy. Before she founded the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists, her main research focused on the history of economic ideas, with a special interest on circular and universality based economics as an approach to integrative economic ethics. She has published on value theory in feminist economics and reflects on technical design from a feminist and inclusive point of view, such as autonomous driving, a different approach to labor, and a profound recognition of creative skills.
Hagengruber is a founder and director of the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists and a founder of the research area EcoTechGender. She founded and co-edits the Journal for the History of Women Philosophers at Brill’s and the series Womens Philosophical heritage with De Gruyter.
