These resources developed in a wide variety of tectonic settings, ranging from compressional, transpressional, transtensional, wrenching to extensional. Some of them are related to specific depositional environments. A particular attention is given to the added values and economic importance of these resources. The book is aimed at young geoscientists, established researchers, and other professionals interested in geoscientists, especially those active in economic geology and related multidisciplines. It contains up-to-date basic materials, recent basic references and thematic maps, as well as valuable data that are rapidly accumulated in the last few decades about georesources in Egypt. Book chapters are authored by influential scholars and well-known scientists working in both academia and research institutions. Some chapters explore precious metals, placer mineral deposits and phosphate deposits. Others demonstrate building and construction raw materials, along with ceramic and porcelain raw materials. Fossil fuels (Oil, natural gas and coal) as a non-renewable source of energy in Egypt are also presented. Characteristics and industrial applications of white sand in Sinai Peninsula, and black sand deposits as a substantial reserve for heavy-minerals in Egypt are given more attention. Besides, Rare Earth Elements, niobium-tantalum mineralization and beryllium mineralization are the subject matter of details in a specific chapters. Strategic metals and ore deposits hosted in mafic-ultamafic lithologies and granitic pegmatites are examined. Also, Phanerozoic-related ore deposits and water resources are highlighted. The last chapters provide a state-of-art on the application of GIS, remote sensing and geophysical methods in exploring strategic georesources in Egypt.

Zakaria Hamimi is Tectonics and Structural Geologist, currently at Benha University in Egypt, and has worked previously at Sana’a University, Yemen (1995-1998), and King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia (2003-2013). He obtained a B.Sc. (distinction with Honors) in 1984 at Assiut University, a M.Sc. in 1988 at Zagazig University, and a Ph.D. in 1992 in structural geology and tectonics at Cairo University. His research focusses on the tectonic evolution of the Arabian-Nubian Shield via structural/microstructural, paleostress, and strain studies, aligned with geological mapping, geomorphology, and remote sensing methodologies. His research output exceeds 80 research publications in national and international journals. Zakaria Hamimi is President and Founding Member of the Arabian Geosciences Union, since 2012. He has been awarded the medal of the Egyptian Geological Society of Egypt in 2015 and the medal of the Arab Mining and Petroleum Association in 2016.

François Roure was trained at the ENS in St-Cloud in France. He got his Ph.D. at Paris VI University in 1979 and his “thèse d’état” in 1984 at the same university, dealing with the geodynamic evolution of the North American Cordillera in northern California and Oregon during the Mesozoic. After 4 years spent with CNRS (1980–1984), he joined the French Institute of Petroleum (IFP) in 1984 and was still Senior Geosciences Advisor at IFP Energies nouvelles, the current name of Former IFP, from 2000 to 2016, Extraordinary Professor at the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands, from 2012 to 2016, and Member of the CNE2 (French assessment board for research and the studies into the management of radioactive waste and materials) from 2010 to 2016.
