Validated organic chemistry experiments from introductory through research-level techniques

This practical workbook is the perfect study companion to the Experimental Organic Chemistry textbook. Each of the 106 experimental procedures, described step-by-step in Part 2 of Experimental Organic Chemistry, 4th edition, is supported by several problem questions in the workbook. These problems range in difficulty and are designed to emphasize the main points raised in the experiments. Working through the problems and finding solutions tests students’ knowledge of organic chemistry gained in the laboratory. It also reinforces and extends their learning. Detailed model solutions are included for all Problems, enabling students not only to check their answers but also examine the correct method of solving the Problems.

Workbook for Experimental Organic Chemistry, 4th edition is an indispensable study tool for students of organic chemistry at all levels. It underpins students’ understanding or organic chemistry and links it to their experimental work in the laboratory.

Philippa B. Cranwell is the founder of ConstaChem. Formerly an Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Reading, she brings nearly two decades of academic and industry experience. Her research interests are within the field of organic chemistry, particularly in relation to the development of new reactions suitable for undergraduate students and the use and importance of language when discussing and teaching complex scientific concepts.

Laurence M. Harwood is Professor Emeritus at Reading University. He is currently Chief Scientific Advisor of Bead Biopharma and Visiting Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Lincoln. His research interests range from natural product synthesis, through synthetic methodology, to synthesizing metal‐selective ligands for use in nuclear waste treatment. His work has produced over 250 research publications, articles and patents.

Christopher J. Moody is Professor Emeritus, School of Chemistry, University of Nottingham. In 2022, he co-founded Alevin Therapeutics, a University of Nottingham spin-out company aiming to develop safe and effective medicines for patients with fibrotic disease. His research interests range across organic chemistry, with a focus on the synthesis of biologically active molecules, particularly heterocyclic compounds and quinones. His work is reported in over 450 publications and patents.
