Bloomsbury Philosophy of Education
Systematic Philosophy of Education
Philosophical Presuppositions
James Scott Johnston | Michael Hand
Education / Philosophy, Theory & Social Aspects
This book sets out a program of philosophical conditions for a new program of philosophy of education structured around the main branches of philosophy: metaphysics, logic, theory of knowledge, ethics, and socio-politics. Johnston begins by canvassing the discipline of philosophy of education through a historical analysis of its topics and concerns, and concludes that it is entirely too beholden to socio-politics and its respective agendas. The new program offered here takes its point of departure from leading original questions in education; questions that have a pedigree as old as the first educational institutions. From these leading questions a new philosophy of education is developed.
James Scott Johnston is Professor in the Faculty of Education/Department of Philosophy at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
