Mario Affatigato
Technology & Engineering / Materials Science / Ceramics
Provides a state-of-the-art collection of recent papers on glass and optical materials as presented at the 6th Pacific Rim Conference on Glass and Optical Materials. Sections on structure and properties, optical applications, glass modeling, and industrial applications are included.
Mario Affatigato, Associate Professor of Physics
Dr. Mario Affatigato received his undergraduate degree from Coe College and his doctorate in physics from Vanderbilt University. He is currently back at Coe as an associate professor of physics. His work focuses on the study of glass and the use of optics to investigate its structure. His work was recognized by the National Science Foundation through a Presidential Early Career Award (PECASE), which he received at the White House in February of 1999. Dr. Affatigato maintains a very active research program that involves close to ten undergraduate students every summer, and he is also the Site Director of Coe's Research Experiences for Undergraduates site, one of the few national NSF sites at a small college. He has been involved with the Glass and Optical Materials Division of the American Ceramic Society for over a decade, and is currently serving as Vice Chair of the Division.
