Social Focus on Women is the second in a series of publications concentrating on different groups of people in British society. This edition complemented the United Kingdom report prepared for the DfES at the request of the United Nations for the Fourth World Conference on Women, held in Beijing in September 1995. Social Focus on Women looks at what it is like to be a woman in the United Kingdom, and also sets this in context by looking at changes in the lives of women in recent years and providing some comparisons with men. Social Focus on Women contains commentary, tables, charts and maps covering the following topics: women in society; women as partners; mothers; carers; criminals; victims. Their economic activity; employment; earnings; access to resources; health and well-being; their use of free-time; and women on the move.
